3 Months, 3 Weeks: Sick!

Last week, Liam got pretty sick. I guess that's what I get for transitioning to formula :( And for putting him in daycare! He is actually STILL pretty sick: wheezing and coughing. He was diagnosed with bronchiolitis, but was negative for RSV which is a virus that can lead to more serious complications. And also pink eye and an ear infection. So the last few days have been fun... ...not! Well, it's not so bad. I guess it could be a lot worse if Liam was in a crabby mood from being sick, but thank GOODNESS he's been in good spirits the entire time: wanting to play and talk and acting like a happy little baby.

The only annoying things are the nebulizer breathing treatments we had to do and he won't eat as much due to the ear infection and the mucous buildup in his throat. The nebulizer with abluterol hasn't helped much for the wheezing, it apparently helps more if the baby 's family has a history of asthma, which is not the case. This sickness just has to run its course.

So it's been a pretty tough week trying to take care of a sick baby, now I'm getting sick again and trying to get work done at home! We've had to keep him home from daycare since last Wednesday afternoon! It's been nice having him home...just like maternity leave all over again, but I've been having to stay up late to get work done. And I'm pretty exhausted. And since he isn't eating as much during the day, he wakes up at night for a bottle. I hope after this is over, he will go back to sleeping through the entire night again! That was really nice!

Other than being sick, Liam seems to be doing great. We went to Forsyth Park in downtown Savannah for the first time since the weather has been lovely. We also ordered Liam a jumperoo (the same one his BFF Scarlett has!) for him to play in, so we are looking forward to getting that in the mail soon.

Easter is coming up soon and I'm hoping he will be well by then!

3 Months, 2 Weeks

Liam has really started talking and babbling more. And smiling too. It is very cute. No belly laugh yet! But we are sure we will hear it soon... Also, he still hasn't rolled over yet. They say that bigger babies have a little trouble moving all that weight (he weighed in at 18 lbs today!)! But he's almost rolled over from his back to tummy a few times. He makes it about half way, but just can't figure out what to do with his arms. One of them gets in the way, so he can't fully roll over. He might be close to rolling from tummy to back, but he mainly just buries his face in the floor when he gets tired of being on his tummy, so I have to flip him over before he drowns in his own pool of drool! Therefore, he doesn't get much time practicing rolling that way.

Daycare is still going well, and he's still sleeping good at night. He still has nights where he wakes up, but as I've said before, he goes back down easily. He slept through last Friday night for the third Friday in a row! That was nice of him. :)

We've signed up for a 5k in April (Race for the Cure on April 17), so I'm trying to get back in to running. Joel and I are trying to take turns running at the park and the other strolling with Liam. We are alternating days so we can both get some runs in. Liam also gets a good nap during the stroll too. The weather has been getting nicer and the sun stays out longer due to daylight savings, so we go to the park after we pick Liam up from daycare.

No new photos to post on shutterfly from me this week. We haven't really had any opportunities. One day, maybe this weekend, I want to go to downtown and take pics of Liam.

Today, grandma watched Liam so that Joel and I could go see a movie with Laura and Buddy. We saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D which was pretty cool. Although, I have to admit that I kept dozing off (I am notorious for sleeping during movies!) and I fell asleep for maybe about 10 minutes near the climax of the movie. Haha... I haven't done that in a while! The movie wasn't boring at all... I loved ALL the visuals and colors... but maybe I was just overstimulated (like a little baby!) or the weird effect from the 3D glasses might have hypnotized me and made me fall asleep! Oh well. From what I saw, it was pretty good!

Random thought/reflection

It's been about 3 and a half months since Liam was born. Life has changed SO MUCH since then and it seems like we both have been though a lot.

As I was walking out of my bedroom earlier, I looked into Liam's room and thought of how much time has passed already. I remember while I was still pregnant and his nursery was all set up, I'd sit in the glider in the room and just think about how everything was ready, we just needed Liam to come out to complete it! Looking back, little did I know how really "ready" I was. haha

Life with baby (now) is pretty predictable for the most part since we have our routines for the weekdays: wake up, get changed, get fed, off to daycare, all day at daycare, come home, feed, play, bedtime routine, go to bed, maybe wake up one time at night, maybe not... repeat.

I was trying to think about the first month and how we got through the days. I honestly cannot remember much of it at all. I can only remember little bits... mostly of the nights waking up multiple times to breastfeed and not getting a lot of sleep. And how he was pretty fussy and colicky sometimes where not even nursing would calm him down. I had to constantly hold him and carry him where ever I went. If I put him down, he'd immediately start crying. I don't remember much else, but I know that it resulted in me being pretty stressed most of the time.

OK, well, maybe I remember too much of the bad stuff. But I still can't remember how we/I managed to survive each day. There was no routine at that point, I was a slave to the baby! And my body took a while to heal from the stitches, etc... I think my mind has decided to block most of that out for my own good.

Despite all the stressful moments I endured, I do remember plenty of good things as well. Particularly how cute and small he was back then (he looks totally different now). How he used to pout his lips when he slept. The sounds he used to make when he breastfed. How he could easily fall asleep on our chests. How easily he used to fall asleep! The delightful smell of breastmilk poop... (formula poop is way more stinky!)

at minute 1:21, he does this funny "laugh", not a true belly laugh yet, but it's friggin hilarious!

3 Months, 1 Week: Smiling and Talking a lot more

Liam seems to be adjusting to daycare, and so have I! He's not nearly as overtired and cranky in the evenings as he used to be, so we can still have some fun with him when he gets home until it's time for his bedtime routine.

We both came down with a cold last week, and we are still both a bit congested. I hope he kicks it soon. I hate hearing him trying to breathe with all that snot in his nose/throat. And I hate using the bulb syringe to get it out! He doesn't have a fever, so that's a good thing.

Auntie Jen came to visit this weekend and she cooked for us again (Yum! thank you!) and we all went shopping on Saturday to find some nice clothes for Liam. We found a few outfits, but I might still need to find him some khaki pants or shorts. It's so hard to find nice clothes for little boys!

Liam was extra talkative and smiley when his Auntie Jen was here. It was so cute! We got some video clips of him, I'll try to upload some soon. I am in the process of uploading some pictures from my camera on the shutterfly site.

As far as sleeping through the night, he did it once last week during the week (but woke up for the day at 5 am!!!) and then slept 11 hours straight on Friday night again (8pm to 7am). He's getting there, at least! We know he is capable of it, so it just has to be a matter of time until he will do it all the time! I wonder how he will do with the new time change...

13 Weeks (3 Months): Daycare and Ahhh...sleep!

Happy 3 months, Liam!

This post is a day early since Master Liam is down for the night! First of all, I am so excited to report that Liam has slept through the night for the FIRST time!!! He slept from 8pm to 7am! And I got 9 hours of sleep, myself! I hope it's not a fluke, but it seems that all this past week he has been working up to that point.

We cut out the sleep-feeding (pick up Liam and feed him while he is asleep) we used to do around 10-11pm because I had a feeling we were overfeeding him since he'd usually make grunty noises early in the morning and seemed pretty gassy. After we did that, he'd sleep at 8pm, then wake up at 2-3am for a middle of the night feed and then wake up at 6/7am. Then, it went to waking at around 4am, and all of a sudden last night, he didn't wake up at all!!! It was awesome. I never thought this day would come. I do not want to get my hopes up though. I have a bottle prepared for a night feeding tonight JUST IN CASE! :)

This past weekend, we also left Liam overnight with grandma, grandpa and Auntie Katie for a few days. This was his first overnight stay! He did pretty well and wasn't too much trouble, I hope! Thank you for watching him! Stacie's wedding was beautiful, and we had a great mini-vacation down in Coral Springs!

I started back at work (from home) on Tuesday, and Liam started daycare that day too... I dropped him off and he seemed fine (he was asleep). I called and checked in with him a couple hours after I got back home and asked if I could stop in on my lunch break to see him - they said it was perfectly fine. As I entered the room, I saw him sitting in this exersaucer... I went over to him and took this picture:

It was kind of sad to me because he seemed like such a "big boy" chilling in an exersaucer (didn't think he was ready for one of those), but he couldn't reach out and play with the toys in it! Also since he was so calm, no one was really paying any attention to him at the time, well, there was one lady right next to him feeding another baby, then the other 2 ladies were tending to 2 other crying babies (one was screaming hysterically). I'm just not used to the idea of him not getting any attention at any given time. I don't think he really cared too much, but it broke my heart a little. I just have to get used to the fact that he is in daycare now and that's how they work! I can't wait until Liam's great-grandma Lily gets here! She will be here for about a month in April to help out and spend time with him! :) yay!

I finally posted more pics to the shutterfly photo site, so check those out.

I think I should start labeling these posts with his age in months instead of weeks now...

Oh yeah... I should mention that we weighed Liam on Monday... well we did the method where Joel weighs himself and then weighs himself carrying Liam... and the difference was 17 lbs!!!! He is a heavy little chunkster!
